Harry makes no sense because 1/4 into a denominator of 8 is 2/8. So 2/8 + 1/8 is equal to 3/8 and Harry has done the equation wrong.
Harry is wrong and Jane is right because to add fractions they have to have a common denominator. Because 8 is a multiple of 4, 8 is the common denominator so....
1/4+1/8
To change 1/4 to have 8 as the denominator you have to multiply the top and bottom by 2.
1/4*2/2= 2/8.
2/8+1/8= 3/8
Hope this helps
