the word gentle man has transformed due to the relaxation of the manners. then a gentle man would hold the door for a women, was able to stay with a women without other affairs, respected people and there beliefs but now offensive words are ok to say like gay, that is an offensive word but now socially accepted to say on television and in public on radios. it was a man with gentle and reassuring characteristics and that kind of aura about him and the way he carries himself
