The main storyline of "The World on the Turtle's Back" is about the Iroquois perspective of how the world was created. This story has similar parts to the Catholic creation story. Haudenosaunee is the other word that we can call Iroquois as. Specifically, this historically powerful confederacy of northeast Native Americans was located in the North of America.  

The Iroquois were known as the Iroquois League during the colonial years to the French. The Iroquois League then was changed into the Iroquois Confederacy. The Iroquois was formed from five nations that were comprising together, which were Onondaga, Cayuga, Oneida, Mohawk, and Seneca. The Iroquois then became Six Nations because the Tuscarora people joined them. The Six Nations speak Iroquoian. The Iroquois have adopted a lot of people from other tribes to join their place. Even though they came from different backgrounds, the Iroquois still considered them as members of the Iroquois families.
