The crop that allowed the early English colony of Virginia to become profitable and survive was C. tobacco. Virginia had a lot of this crop, and soon people realized what it could be used for and decided to make a profit out of it. So they planted a lot of tobacco and had so much to sell, that they accumulated large sums of money, which made Virgina quite prosperous.
