In any group in periodic table, when we go down, elements tend to have greater metallic character. one of the important metallic character is capacity to lose electron. Higher the capacity to lose the electron, greater the metallic character. In bigger sized atoms outermost electrons can easily be lost to others because they are at larger distance from the nucleus. In a group, the size of the atom increases when we go down the group. So other elements of boron- group show metallic character.
