Galileo was credited to prove the Copernican theory of heliocentrism (the sun is at the centre of our solar system and the Earth is rotating around the sun) thanks to his telescope, which he had built himself. He was unsure of publishing the results of his discovery since he knew what happened to Copernicus. The scientist was declared heretical by the Catholic Church, which was again heliocentrism, and proclaimed that the earth was at the center of the universe, and the sun was orbiting around it.
