The poem, written by Lord Tennyson (1832) tells us the story of a woman, Lady Shalott, who is cursed with not being able to leave her tower and not being allowed to look at Camelot. However, one day she sees a beautiful knight through her window and wishes to leave her tower, which is when she dies. 
Camelot obviously refers to King Arthur's castle (medieval times), and romance refers to her falling in love with the knight.
