Respuesta :

This is a case of bronchial asthma. From the history, she is experiencing shortness of breath and nonproductive cough with nocturnal symptoms. She has past medical and family history of atopy which presents as seasonal allergies and eczema or dermatitis respectively. The patient denies smoking. Physical examination revealed normal vital signs but auscultation revealed high pitched whistling on expiration in all lobes, and this is called wheezing and this is characteristic of asthma. The management for this case is a immediate short acting beta agonist (salbutamol or albuterol) and a maintenance low dose corticosteroid (fluticasone) or a combination of long acting beta agonist and a corticosteroid (Seretide).

The correct answer is asthma.

Asthma refers to a usual long-term inflammatory disorder of the lungs airways. It is featured by repetitive and variable symptoms, bronchospasm, and reversible airflow obstruction. The symptoms include episodes of coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.

Exposure to various substances and irritants, which stimulate allergens can also stimulate the signs and symptoms of asthma. Apart from this various factors are considered to enhance the occurrences of developing asthma, one of these is having a blood relative, like a parent or sibling with asthma.
