It is known as the Franco-Indian War (1754-1763) as part of the Seven Years War developed in North America. The name refers to the two main enemies that the British faced: French and different tribes of Native Americans. It is also known as the War of the Conquest in Canada.
The zone of greater conflict was the well-known one like territory of the Ohio or valley of the Ohio, a region to the south of Great Lakes that comprised great part of the present states of Ohio, Pensilvania and West Virginia. This territory was gradually occupied by the French at the beginning of the 1750s by building several forts.
The French Indian War was a series of events that culminated in a state of war for a period of nine years between Britain and France. The conflict lasted for a period of nine years; however, it has been peculiarly termed as ‘Nine years War’. The conflict broke out as a result of disputes that arose over the ownership of the vast colonial territory and fertile resources of the North American lands. The British and French were engaged in a battle for influencing the cultural patterns that would emerge over the heart of North America, in reality, this was just another war for territorial expansion, a direct impact of imperialism. The Ohio River valley was the main bone of contention between these two European powers, as it was a fertile agricultural tract and a flourishing commercial center. Both the British and the French contested the Ohio River Valley as a part of their respective empires.
Further Explanation-
The age of explorations that were undertaken by European powers such as the French and the British directly coincided with the coveting of the most profitable commercial regions, trade routes, and agriculturally fertile lands. Discovery expeditions were being undertaken by the European nations during this period which led to obvious disputes over territorial claims. The royal British charter expanding the created province of Carolina in 1663 claimed the territories to the South of the French territories of Canada within its realm. The French clashed with the British in claiming the Mississippi river basins with the Ohio valley as a part of the French territory, claiming to have occupied it during the explorations headed by Rene- Robert Cavelier. This led to the outbreak of a conflict that lasted for about nine years.
