This included obligatory Catholicism which was practiced by Mexicans, as well as forbidding slavery which was a part of the Mexican constitution. They also had to become Mexican citizens and not just foreigners if they were to settle.

The correct answer for 2 is B. They feared competition from black workers. 

They believed that former slaves would take much lower wages for the same jobs that they did and would thus leave them jobless since all entrepreneurs would rather want to save some money on employing African-Americans than give a higher amount of money to white workers for the same job which was often low skilled and easily learned.

The United States were a huge country with immigrants from all over the world and a huge difference in cultural values between these immigrants.
