A & P is an example of postmodernism. In the story, the main character with the name Sammy left his work without realizing how it will affect his parents. He only has self-concern that leads to his personal decision. He appears to have a mindset more favor to his personal gain compared to have a systematized movement. Sammy is an example of postmodernist because he did not try to refine his mind about what is wrong or right. He asserted individualism and his system place is lost and continue to be unsure on his next step.

Another aspect that classifies the story as a post-modern write-up is its portrayal of female exploitation. Females are accepted when they present themselves as some sophisticated beings. We can note the attitude of the manager towards the girls at the very start of the story when he kicks them out because they had not much on them.
