Your choice is between B and D.
Without a terrific amount of research, I don't think you can distinguish between the two of them. It is well known that Eisenhower for example, wrote personal things to his wife. He did not say much about the war. If he did, his letters would have been heavily censored. I'm pretty sure it would be D. B is true of many high ranking officers who still had much of importance to say.
