If you want him to open up and share his feelings, tell him there's nothing wrong with sharing. To support this share your feelings with him. This might make him feel a bit more comfortable. He will probably won't do it right away it takes time for someone to feel comfortable doing something they don't do often.

so, I have trouble with this as well. it's tough to tell someone how you're feeling when you haven't done it your whole life. But, what I would do is when you're talking to him look him in the eyes. And when you do that, put your hand on his shoulder. And basically tell him that he means the world to you...blah blah blah. whatever you need to say....then you tell him that you need to know what he's feeling because you care for him and your always going to be there for him. I read somewhere that eye contact, physical contact, and body language helps a lot.
