Hamlet argues that his insanity is caused by:
-His unfulfilling love for Ophelia. Ophelia claims she loves him and she is the one that first tells his father Hamlet loves her as well. Hamlet claims in his soliloquy" Ophelia. Ophelia. Her name doth canter from mine tongue through my resistant lips as such the horse doth through the field. Yet how may she be known, that in my spleen vented t’ward her vivacity, ‘tis my heart I wish t’offer. Ophelia. "
We can think he is in love with her, but his duty is actually another one: take revenge for his father´s death.
-Hi anger with his uncle and mother. Hamlet his angry with his uncle and mother since the beginning of the play. At first, he is angry with Gertrude becasue she married Claudius-the newly crowned king (who was Hamlet´s father brother) too soon after the death of his father. Then, the ghost reveals he was murdered by Claudius, who coveted both his wife and throne. Hamlet design a plan through a theatre performance to check on the ghost´s words and he actually confirms it is true. During the performance, Caludius shows signs of guilt, so much so, he lost his mind, rising and shouting.
