A corn plant has been genetically engineered. It produces pollen that can make its own toxins. These toxins protect the corn plant against pests. What is a likely impact on the environment around the corn plant?\

Respuesta :

The environment wouldn’t get nutrients because bees and other pollinators would notice that the corn isn’t useful and/or is harmful to them.

Answer:

The ecosystem around the corn will change

Explanation:

The corn got genetically engineered and thus it is able to produce its toxin which protects corn plan against the pest. This means the pest would not be able to get their food/nutrition from corn and thus the following events may occur in the ecosystem -

a) The pests may  start dying

b) The pest may start feeding on some other plant

c) The pest may evolve and again start feeding on the corn plant but this will happen after a long period of time.

Now, once the pest adopts to any of the three possible events as described above , there are high chances that this will impact the ecosystem and all its depended elements adversely.
