Redundancy occurs when the same thing is said more than once. This can happen in writing especially through use of adjectives and adverbs. A perfect example would be "The silent mouse quietly explored the house." In this case, the mouse has already been described as silent so to use the adverb quietly to describe how he explored is redundant. In the sentence for the prompt, the redundancy is unexpected surprise. A surprise is something the object of the surprise did not see coming. It is unexpected. By describing the surprise as unexpected, the speaker is repeating him/herself.
