Hussein fled and was on the hunt for nine months before he was successfully captured. Chemical weapons were used against Iranian soldiers during the Iraqi war against Iran but as far as I am aware, they were not used on civilians once Hussein was knocked from power. In 2003 when the US found a unkempt Hussein, a once well groomed man, hiding in an 8 foot hole to evade authorities, he was taken into custody. In 2006 he was eventually executed for is crimes.
