The organisms that create all the usable food energy on Earth are called the producers. These organisms are able to produce food through the different resources such as the energy from the Sun, the carbon dioxide, and water and minerals that they absorb from the soil.

Producer organisms maintain the balance of the planet because they are the main source of food that create all usable food energy on Earth to consumers.

What are producers?

They are organisms capable of fixing light energy and producing their own food from inorganic substances.

Characteristics of producers

  • Plants carry out the process of photosynthesis, "trap" light energy from the Sun and transform it into chemical energy, ready to be used by any living organism.

  • Consumer organisms, also called heterotrophs, feed on organic matter, that is, other living plant and/or animal beings.

Therefore, we can conclude that producer organisms are those that produce their own food from inorganic substances such as light, water, and carbon dioxide.
