He played wisely, and instead of trying to attack China, ruled by the Jin Dynasty in that period, through the great wall, he just circled around it with his army. The first people that came on his way were the Tanguts, or rather the Western Xia, and he managed to make vassals out of them. After that was done, he continued towards the Chinese territory and systematically, city by city, the Mongols took over all of China, and brought the Jin Dynasty to an end.
