The caste system categorizes Hindus into four ranks- Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and the Shudras.  It is believed that the four groups emerged from the Hindu god of creation known as Brahma.

  • Brahmins were at eh top of this hierarchy. They were mainly intellectuals and teachers. They were believed to have originated from Brahmins head.
  • Next to Brahmins were Kshatriyas ( rulers and warriors). They were believed to have originated from his arms.
  • Next to Kshatriyas were Vaishyas, they were believed to have been created from his thighs. Shudras were at the bottom of the hierarchy. They were believed to have originated from his feet. Shudras did the menial jobs.
