Here are two ways of doing it.

************************************************************

1) The current price is 100% of the price. The price went down by 6%, so since 100% - 6% = 94%, the new price is 94% of the original price.

94% * 175 = 0.94 * 175 = 164.50

The new price is 164.50

*******************************************************

2) The discount is 6% of 175, so first, we find the discount.

6% of 175 = 0.06 * 175 = 10.5

Now we subtract the amount of the discount from the original price.

175 - 10.50 = 164.50

The new price is 164.50

**********************************************************

As you can see, both methods give you the same answer, 164.50
If you move the decimal point up by one place - from 175.0 to 17.5 - that gives you 10%. But we need 6%, so we need to move the decimal point to the left once more: 17.5  -->  1.75  <--  This is 1% of 175. To find 6%, we just multiply the value for 1% by 6:

1.75 * 6 = 10.5

10.5 is 6%. To answer the question, we would subtract our value for 6% from the original ticket price:

175 - 10.5 = 164.5

The new price of the ticket is 164.5

Hope this helps.
